Celebrating 13 years supporting foster and adoptive families

.

If you are not familiar with the process of Foster Parenting and/or Adopting, please click on the Frequently Asked Questions page, under Becoming a Foster Parent.  We are able to license parents living in the Kansas City, Missouri, Metro Area Counties

We are also happy to answer any additional questions you may have, over the phone (816-350-0215) or by email.

I’m ready to get started with the process of becoming a foster/adoptive parent.  Now what do I do?

We are currently licensing foster/adoptive homes in Jackson or Clay counties in Missouri and  those willing to accept sibling groups, children 12 years or older, or children with special behavioral or medical needs.

If you are still interested, please read on.

If you live in Kansas, please call Kansas Children’s Service League at 1-877-530-5275.

Below is a step-by-step outline of the licensing process:

  • We are happy to answer any questions you have about becoming a foster parent, and discuss the process with you. If you feel comfortable taking the next step...
  • You will then be scheduled for STARS, which is the pre-service foster parent training course.  This 27-hour course is required for all Missouri foster parents, and takes anywhere from four to nine weeks to complete, depending on which session fits into your schedule.
  • Fill out this questionnaire and submit online or print and mail to MFCAA, Attn: Jennifer J., 3210 S. Lee’s Summit Rd, Independence, MO 64055.
  • While you are taking the STARS course, you will complete a background check and all your paperwork.  Also during this time, your family liaison will make three visits to your home as part of the “home study” process.
  • When all your paperwork is complete (including background check), you have successfully finished the STARS course, and your family liaison has completed your home study, you are eligible for licensing.  Approximately two weeks after submission of your licensing form, you should receive your license from the state, allowing you to take children into your home.

Please call or e-mail Jennifer J at (816) 350-0215 or jenniferj@mfcaa.org with any questions or if you are ready to become a foster or adoptive parent.  We look forward to hearing from you!
