Answer:In a regular foster home with two parents, there can only be 6 children total. You can set up your rooms anyway you like but its a good idea to have girls in one and boys in another even if they are siblings. I would suggest you allow at least two drawers per child and about 1 foot of closet space.
Do I have to have a separate room for each child?
Answer: Some of this information is in the answer above, but if you go to the training to become a foster parent, they tell you all of that. Basically, they need to have enough room for their things and have a "normal" living experience. I would suggest to anyone thinking of doing foster care to be sure they consider having foster children in a separate room from their birth children. These children have seen things and experienced things your children have not and it may be in your best interest to make that separation.
How do I get another therapist for my child?
Answer: You consult with the A/C worker and make them aware of your concerns and let them know you want to change and who you want your new therapist to be. If it is not court ordered, this is how you can get that change made.
What do I do if my child is out of control on the weekend?
Answer: Try to contact the worker and supervisor on the 418 at the home numbers. If that does not work, call the night worker at 816-440-0786. leave your information and someone will contact you. If that fails, contact police or try to take the child to the hospital yourself.
Do I have to have siblings visit in my home on the weekends?
Answer: Sibling visits are important for children in foster care, however, they need to be held where everyone is comfortable. You do not have to allow those visits to be in your home. Suggest other locations that are workable for the visits and assist in anyway you see fit.
How do I get my child classified as Behavior or Career?
Answer: You have to gather information to present to the treatment team so it can be passed on to the RCST coordinator for her assessment. You will need to fill out a CS-9 form and have all the supporting information it requires. Therapist reports, school reports, and your charting of the child's behaviors will be needed to have a favorable decision made.
How can I get my child into residential treatment?
Answer: This process is very similar to the process for classification. You need all the supporting documentation to have the RCST team assess the child for appropriate placement.
My biological child was adopted by another family. Can you help me find him/her?
Answer: MFCAA does not place children or have any authority in the placement process. Our mission is to support and advocate for families that currently have foster children or adopted children, and need our resources and/or our assistance. We do not have open access to adoption files, and will not be able to assist you in finding a biological child that has been adopted. The best place for you to start is the Children's Division.
